| Ok! I should be studying! But I'm not! Surprise!! Staying at home is bad for me ... bah! Anyway .. I've decided to shift to blogspot . So check out my new blog at www.iamjoycy.blogspot.com | | |
| Long long week .. been going home at about 11.30 pm to 12.30 pm for the past week. All due to meetings, workshops and class ...... argh .. need sleep need sleep. But of course, when there is a chance for play ...... sleep is secondary. So after classes at UM, a few of us class mates gathered for a mini outings. We had a Singaporean and 3 Johoreans. So we decided to hop over to KLCC. And its a pretty good choice ... hehe haven't been there for ages. We went to Chili's for some food. Wait was long, but worth it. Food, fun laughter .... haha, I was out with a bunch of entertaining people. We really sat there for almost 2 hours chatting away till our movie was about to begin.
Ready for us to dig in!!! Attackkkkkkkkkkkkk Narnia!! ooh ..... good show with a cute prince too. I thought I would not enjoy it ... but since I followed the majority ... I ended up enjoying it. I thought I hated action but the scenes were even more dramatic as we sat on the second row from the front. haha good choice. I guess fairy tales always has a magical effect over us. | | |
| Did something different yesterday! There's more to life than shopping, clubbing, toastmasters or classes. Art my dear, is really beautiful. My deaf friends put up a performance at KLPAC yesterday. And it was beautiful .... At first I thought of going there to support them but I was surprised.
The Senrul West area is beautiful, but I'll leave you to explore it yourself. The play/concert was very impressive. Despite their limitations, they managed to put on a marvelous show. There were drawings, dances, mimes and the highlight .....a chinese drum performance.
More than 12 Chinese drums were there. All beating simultaneously and with synchronization. And I really respect them for the hardwork and the practice that they have put in it. Kudos guys! You made a mark for yourselves and I am really proud of you. I can feel your joy of putting up a good performance.
And to my friends who invited me, thank you for opening up my eyes. To Fui Ping ... you looked like a pro during your performance!

| Exciting place we went to celebrate Jia Yin's birthday! Bubba Gump @ The Curve. I always wanted to go there, since I saw it on a travelogue in HK. It was at HK Peak, and now that its in town ............ its impossible for me not to go there.
The lovely girls were all there, eating & chatting and catching up. But the restaurant it self was a highlight. The food was unique, decor was warm and cosy and the staff were exceptionally nice. One thing worth trying is the Cajun prawns. Juicy and tasty ... and if you're feeling funky, have this cup of blue drink that comes in a lighted tall glass. The whole setup was special. Such an old country style diner. They had these plates for calling the waiters .. run forest run & stop forest stop!
And since it was a birthday event, they made the birthday girl stand on the chair. And they had this unique birthday chant... and a free dessert. You had to work for that dessert mind you! you had to shake that booty, shake shake that booty. hehhe, they even did a pop quiz for us on the movie Forest Gump. And since I answdered them, I was in for something free...
Tadah! My free flow of ice water. Oh! What a privilige! After a whole night of smiles, we went to Sanctuary for drinks. Opened a bottle of something and enjoyed ourselves there. The music was good but the lights were blinding. It was super packed but we never failed to enjoy each others company. Ah, a good night out!

| The weekend finally came and left. Whoa ... it was planned since last year. I didn't think much when I purchased the convention tickets last year ... I new I enjoyed my previous one in KL in 2006 and I'm sure this time it would be great as well. What more can you ask for? A convention, a vacation, friends and food all in one? Yup .... the Penang Annual Toastmasters Convention 2008.
We set of on Thursday morning. A bit too early for a vacation but its ok .... we need to make the most out of our free day. So lots of driving and chatting and asam bois later, we arrive in Ipoh. Had the original Foh San Dim Sum. Its been ages since I went for dim sum in a place where they still push those serving trolleys. And the restaurant was situated in one of those old chinese association building with high ceilings and a foyer. ooh ... if you go there make sure you try the lotus paste pau ....heavenly! The skin is flakey and they put a salted egg yolk in the lotus paste .. Then our next stop was snowy mountain tau foo fah! So smooth so sweet!! Just enough fuel to last us for the journey to Penang. And our next stop, ice kacang with atap chee at Swatow Lane. haha the coloring made our teeth look as if we just had blood for tea. And less than an hour later, we had dinner at Song River. An excellent Tai Chow as what everyone says. AND they are right! Steamed sting ray, sweet and sour prawns and lots more .... no wonder they say Penang is all about food!
Did I mention my hotel room was fabulous? It’s a 2 room apartment with windows that look straight out into the sea. And a jacuzzhi with a view too. The rooms have these super big plush beds and its not doing it justice if you wake up early on them? Who is it that wakes me up in the mornings ar? Who pulled my blanket from me ar? But good morning world! It’s a happy view!
So off we went for Bak Kut The on Gurney Drive. Haha I know it’s a weird place to eat BKT. Off we went for an event I’ve been waiting for. SWIMMING!! A pool to die for … it was big, with sides that seem to be able to over flow and drop you off the top of the building. The birds always come to take a little bath .. ultimate enjoyment. Then we hopped over to the kiddies pool. It was so so nice! There were curly water slides, raining mushroom and water jets. Argh…. How to leave the pool?
But we had to …. Cos we had to go for asam laksa and white coffee. It woke me up from my sleepy state (because someone pulled the blanket away from me) and gave us the energy to walk to Gurney plaza. Oohhhh… the accessories there are so pretty so gorgeous so elegant. I couldn’t resist getting some myself. Hehe and what are vacations for if you don’t go wild? I got my self a temp tattoo! And I love it ….hmm, thinking of making it a permanent one. So after the shopping & all, we went to the hawker stalls for Muar Chee. Sweet and soft and crunchy! Its really worth the 15 minute walk to get it.
Back to the hotel and all dressed for the beach themed hotel party! Fun Fun Fun! I love this theme. We feel so relaxed and the whole hall was so colourful. And they played 70’s music! Groovy!!
Party time for us. Hmm, so that’s what contributed to my lack of sleep.
Early morning again. But the beautiful Saturday sun greeted me, not so bad. So we went for the opening ceremony of the convention plus the addresses by the TI president Chris Ford and our District Governor … but all the while …..I could work without food. So the HELP muskeerteers sneaked out for a nice hawker breakfast. Fried kuey teow with big fat prawns….. and my coffee to wake me up!
Time for work! I was a role player for the International Speech and Table topics contest. Wow! Even at the semi- finals, the quality of the speeches were mind- blowing. When only will the day come when I am able to reach that standard. The rest of the afternoon were more speech contests and plenary sessions. Inspiring as always …. Just when I though I was slacking, the convention pulled me back up!
Gala dinner night! Its in girl’s nature to love to dress up and go for such events. And it makes it all the more fun when you go with friends! I must admit, that though it was a sit down dinner, I didn’t eat much, busy snapping photos and working. But all the while having fun.
Oh, did I mention that I went up on stage? HELP University College Toastmasters Club received president’s distinguished status yet again. 4 years in a row! We rock!! So proud of this club. Though I left HELP, my spirit will always be there! All the hard word paid off …. And the feeling of being on stage? Priceless ….. hehe
Time for the real party at Room 2402… and the residents call it The Den. So we had almost 30 people packed in our apartment, all the big shots from District governors to division governors were there. We brought up 5 bottles of liquor and lots of snack! Didn’t know that Toastmasters could drink! So its all about fun! Driks and drinks. Chat and chat! Friends and fun …..!! Our night ended around 3am ….. but the memory of Room 2402 never ended ….. I wanna go back there!! Dragged my self out of bed less than 4 hours later …. But the sky was worth it. There were shades of peach and violet behind the clouds, the sun was rising and it was a magical sight! Oh, how I wished I owned a beach side apartment. But the day was full of energy. I was role playing for the finals of the contest again. Speeches were full of quality! Its really worth everything. And guess what? Divison W won!! Yea …… It kept me in such an enthusiastic mood that I am seriously considering of attending the Bali or Kuching conventions.
Sob sob, its Sunday and we have to go home. Luckily a friend drove us around Penang to get some biscuits and the famous Tau Sar Peah … food for friends and family back home. We dropped by in Ipoh for their famous taugeh chicken and then bought even more Ipoh confectionary. Haha poor Dennis’s car was filled with food. But seriously, a big thank you to Dennis for the transport. Ahh …… finally reached home at about 10pm and thus, the end of my adventure.
Toastmasters is indeed a very good journey. It polishes you up to become a better and more successful person. Its always good to attend functions like this as you get to network with the dedicated few, motivate one another, learn from the best and recharge your Toastmasters energy. You will never know what Toastmasters can do for you. It changed me tremendously and now, through it, I can help change other people too. Trust me, the feeling is great.
To all my house mates in Room 2402, I love you guys. To Karen, Ernest, Dennis, Kian Yoong, Lai Lien, Selena, Jeong Teng & Meyya, hope this friendship never ends. My trip wouldn’t have been such fun if it weren’t for all of you!! To the presidents of HELP & DKC …. Hope our ties will always be there!!
